Music

As a Catholic Primary School, music is integral to both the curriculum and worship. As such, children are offered a variety of musical opportunities.

Wakefield Music Services

Children in Years 3 and 5 are offered 'First Access' whole class music tuition delivered by music specialists from Wakefield Music Services. Year 3 children concentrate on vocal training whilst children in Year 5 learn to play the guitar. As part of this programme, the Year 3 children take part in the annual 'Big Sing' held annually at Wakefield Cathedral; this gives pupils the unique opportunity to perform in a first class venue in front of an audience. Both classes give short concerts at various points throughout the year, to which parents are invited.

Leeds Catholic Diocesan Singing Programme

In order to introduce encourage and enhance choral singing, all schools in the BKCAT, take part in the Diocesan Singing programme, led by music experts from the Diocese. Children in Year 2 and 4 develop their vocal skills by singing a mixture of both secular and sacred music. The Year 4 children experience their first competitive music competition, entering the Rothwell Music Festival. Not only does this provide the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, it also adds the element of competition as well as the chance to receive constructive feedback on their performances. Children are also invited to join the BKCAT choirs, which bring together singers from across the trust; the choirs take part in special acts of worship at churches in the area.
