Safeguarding
At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, we fully recognise the important role we play in protecting, supporting and promoting the welfare of all children in our care. We are committed to ensuring that children feel safe, valued and listened to, and that safeguarding and child protection practice across our school is effective, robust and consistently followed.
We make every effort to ensure that children are safe from harm or abuse, both during their time at school and beyond. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we work closely with families, professionals and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
If you have any concerns relating to the safety or wellbeing of a child, you should speak to one of the school’s designated safeguarding staff as soon as possible. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs Katie Hartley.
Our Designated Safeguarding Academy Councillor is Mrs Elaine Wharton. Alternatively, you can contact Social Care Direct on 0345 8 503 503.
In non-emergency situations, you may also contact the Police on 101 and ask to speak to a child protection officer. If a child is in immediate danger, please call 999.
Parents, carers and professionals can also access confidential support through the NSPCC Helpline, which supports the national strategy to tackle child sexual abuse. The helpline is available to current or past victims, as well as parents, carers and professionals with concerns:

Further safeguarding information and guidance is available via the Wakefield Safeguarding Children Partnership.
Our safeguarding policies are reviewed annually and are fully compliant with national guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education. All of our school policies are located on our policy pages.
We work closely with a range of safeguarding partners, including:
