Physical Education Curriculum Intent Statement

Our curriculum begins the moment children are welcomed into our school and is comprised of all the carefully crafted decisions we make that impact our learners. Our aim is to prepare our children for their futures, enabling them to use their God-given talents to achieve their full potential. Thus, allowing them to live out our virtues and take advantage of every opportunity so that they are best-prepared for their life in an ever-changing world.

We instil self-belief, courage and ambition in our pupils with our mission that we are:

Growing in God’s Love

At St. John’s we follow the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust’s Curriculum design for core and foundation subjects. This falls in line with our National Curriculum for teaching Physical Education.

At St. John’s we follow our own bespoke Curriculum Design for our Physical Education curriculum. This falls in line with our National Curriculum for teaching Physical Education.

At St. John the Baptist we believe our Physical Education curriculum provides a range of opportunities and enhancements for all our pupils.

Within PE this includes..

Educational Trips

We attend many competitive and friendly sports fixtures, ranging from individual, team or whole class.

Our Educational trips often include elements of PE, such as our weekly swimming lessons at the local pool, orienteering activities during the children’s trip to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Visitors

We have highly qualified coaches who deliver quality provision for our pupils and quality CPD for our teaching staff.

During our Aspirations Week and throughout the year we invite many visitors into school to introduce the children to a variety of new sports.

Schemes of Learning

We utilise the PE Pro learning scheme to support our staff in delivering sequential lessons of a consistently high standard.

Collaboration

We attend many collaborative events within our academy trust and the wider Five Towns competitions.

We often collaborate with colleagues across our trust to share good practice and collaborate on future ventures.

We collaborate with many sports clubs in the local area to establish strong links.

Awards

We have achieved the School Games Platinum Award for 2023/24 and have the Change 4 Life Gold Award.

We take great pride in maintaining our children’s high quality experiences of physical activity.

Clubs

We provide regular lunchtime clubs for children across school to experience activities such as cross country, orienteering, forestry etc.

We also have a range of sports afterschool clubs across four days in the week for children across school.

Our Whole School Sports Offer

At St John the Baptist we have a highly varied sports offer available throughout the year and across all year groups. The majority of our sports sessions are delivered by external expert coaches in their fields to ensure that our pupils are delivered a robust physical education which serves to strengthen all aspects of their wider development.

Please see the current offer as a visual below. If you would like to see the sports timetable per year and term group please visit our dedication school calendar and time table page

  • Provide a broad and balanced curriculum for every child, ensuring learning is correctly and progressively sequenced by following our scheme of learning.
