Computing Curriculum Intent Statement
Our curriculum begins the moment children are welcomed into our school and is comprised of all the carefully crafted decisions we make that impact our learners. Our aim is to prepare our children for their futures, enabling them to use their God-given talents to achieve their full potential. Thus, allowing them to live out our virtues and take advantage of every opportunity so that they are best-prepared for their life in an ever-changing world.
We instill self-belief, courage and ambition in our pupils with our mission that we are:
Growing in God’s Love
At St. John’s we follow the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust’s Curriculum design for core and foundation subjects. This falls in line with our National Curriculum for teaching computing.
We believe our computing curriculum provides a range of opportunities and enhancements for all pupils. Within computing, this includes elements such as:
Children have access to a comprehensive range of technological equipment. These include: iPads, Chromebooks and Windows PCs.
Every two years we welcome Tim Pinto from the e-safety Office to help us keep safe online.
Across the curriculum, children use a variety of online platforms such as:
Reading Plus, Learning by Questions, Sumdog, Timestables.co.uk and Digimaps
Children have the opportunity and confidence to use Google Workspace and Classroom both in computing lessons and across the curriculum, preparing them for the world of work.
As part of our school safety focuses, our computing lead will lead e-safety assemblies for Key Stage 1 and 2.
In the early years setting, opportunities for early technological exploration are offered with the use of iPads, Bee-Bots and the interactive whiteboard.
As a school we will:
- Build a love of reading for all pupils through opportunities to access online texts across the curriculum, creating practice for reading in exciting formats. Frequent Chromebook use means this is a regular experience for children in Key Stage 2.
- Show our high expectations for all our pupils through an ambitious and inclusive curriculum by resourcing specific needs with appropriate technology (e.g. Dance Mat for touch typing linked to dyspraxia).
- Provide a broad and balanced curriculum for every child, ensuring learning is correctly and progressively sequenced.
- Use creative technological learning opportunities wherever possible so that children can learn actively and in innovative ways. Through CPD, apps and websites are shared that promote creative e-learning (e.g. through creative R.E.).
