Our Parish Community & Sacramental Programmes
Our Parish Community
We are very fortunate to be part of a vibrant parish community in Normanton, located close to our school.
Our Parish Priest, Fr Mark Naughton, plays an active role in school life. He regularly joins us for Collective Worship and liturgical celebrations throughout the year and also visits lessons to share his wisdom and faith with pupils.
Our children attend and participate in Mass both in school and at church, helping to strengthen their understanding of faith and their connection to the wider parish community.

Sacramental Programmes
Our Sacramental Preparation follows the Diocesan programme and is rooted in the strong partnership between school and parish. Working closely together ensures children receive high-quality preparation, with meaningful involvement from families.
All sacramental programmes are led by the parish, with support from the school where appropriate.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is undertaken over a period of time while children are in Year 3.
Families are invited to register their interest directly through the Parish. Preparation is supported by the school as part of children’s ongoing faith formation.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Communion takes place while children are in Year 4.
The programme is undertaken through the parish, with the school supporting children through Religious Education, prayer and Collective Worship.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins while children are in Year 6.
Depending on diocesan timings and the number of candidates, Confirmation may take place either before or after children leave primary school.
Working in partnership with our Parish
Our sacramental life reflects the close relationship between St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School and our local parish community. This partnership supports children’s spiritual development and helps families grow together in faith.

Faith in Action Award (Year 6)
The Faith in Action Award is a national Catholic award scheme for young people aged 10–16, supported by CYMFed (Catholic Youth Ministry Federation). The award provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to live out their faith through action, service and reflection.
At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, the Faith in Action Award supports our commitment to faith formation by encouraging pupils to put Catholic values into practice within their school, parish and wider community.
The award is designed to:
Be accessible and inclusive for young people
Recognise good works and encourage further service
Ensure action is rooted firmly in faith
The first ‘Pin’ level of the award aligns closely with Confirmation preparation in Year 6, supporting pupils as they deepen their faith and prepare for the next stage of their Christian journey.
Year 6 pupils are invited to take part in the Faith in Action Award in conjunction with the parish community, as part of their Confirmation preparation programme. This strengthens the partnership between school, parish and families and helps pupils experience faith as active and lived.
