Sports Leaders
Promoting teamwork, responsibility and active lifestyles
At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, our Sports Leaders play an important role in supporting and developing physical activity across the school. Pupils who take on this role help promote positive attitudes towards sport, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.
Sports Leaders act as role models, encouraging participation, cooperation and fair play.
Supporting sport in school
Sports Leaders support the school by:
- Helping to care for and organise sports equipment and resources
- Taking an active role in planning sporting events and activities
- Supporting the smooth running of sports sessions and initiatives
- Encouraging participation and enjoyment in physical activity
Through their role, Sports Leaders help ensure that sport remains a valued and enjoyable part of school life.
Pupil voice and development
Sports Leaders:
- Communicate with peers about sporting opportunities and activities
- Share ideas and feedback on how the school’s sports provision could be improved
- Present suggestions to staff to support the ongoing development of the school’s sports offer
This gives pupils a meaningful voice and helps ensure that the sports provision continues to meet the interests and needs of all pupils.
Developing leadership skills
Being a Sports Leader helps pupils to:
- Build confidence and responsibility
- Develop teamwork and communication skills
- Learn how to organise, plan and support others
- Promote healthy, active lifestyles
The Sports Leaders programme forms an important part of our wider Leadership Opportunities, supporting pupils to grow as confident, responsible and active members of the school community.
