Pupil voice, leadership and responsibility
At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, the School Council plays an important role in developing pupil leadership and ensuring children have a voice in school life. The council gives pupils the opportunity to share ideas, represent their peers and contribute positively to the school community.
School Council members are encouraged to lead with respect, responsibility and a commitment to making a difference.
Pupil leadership in action
Through the School Council, pupils:
- Represent their class and share the views of others
- Take part in discussions about school life and improvements
- Help organise events and initiatives within school
- Work collaboratively with staff and other pupil leaders
Council members develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of responsibility through their role.
Making a positive difference
The School Council:
- Supports decision-making that improves school life
- Encourages pupils to express opinions respectfully
- Promotes teamwork, fairness and inclusion
- Helps pupils understand democracy and leadership
Through this role, pupils learn that their ideas matter and that they can influence positive change.
Developing future leaders
Being part of the School Council helps pupils:
- Build confidence and self-belief
- Develop leadership and listening skills
- Learn to work together for the common good
- Grow as responsible, caring members of the school community
