Pupil Mentors
Leading by example and supporting others
At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, our Pupil Mentor programme provides pupils with the opportunity to support younger children and act as positive role models within the school community.
Pupil Mentors volunteer for this role and are chosen because they demonstrate kindness, responsibility and a willingness to help others.
Supporting younger pupils
Pupil Mentors play an important role in helping younger children feel safe, happy and confident at school. They act as a friendly and familiar presence, offering encouragement and reassurance throughout the school day.
Mentors support younger pupils by:
- Being a friendly face around school
- Helping children feel included and valued
- Encouraging positive behaviour and choices
- Supporting smooth routines during key times of the day
School ambassadors and role models
As school ambassadors, Pupil Mentors:
- Lead by example through their behaviour and attitudes
- Promote respect, kindness and inclusion
- Reflect the values and ethos of the school
- Help create a calm and supportive school environment
Through this role, pupils learn that leadership is about service, empathy and responsibility.
Developing confidence and responsibility
Being a Pupil Mentor helps pupils to:
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Develop communication and listening skills
- Learn to support and encourage others
- Grow as responsible, caring members of the school community
The Pupil Mentor programme is an important part of our wider Leadership Opportunities, helping pupils to develop skills that will benefit them both in school and beyond.
