Eco-Schools and Eco Council
Growing in God’s love through leadership and care for creation
As part of our commitment to developing responsible, confident leaders, pupils at St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School are actively involved in the Eco-Schools programme. This national initiative supports children to take meaningful action in caring for God’s creation, while developing leadership skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
Eco-Schools leadership is closely linked to our Catholic values and our belief that caring for the world is an important part of living out our faith.
Pupil leadership in action
Through the Eco Council, pupils:
- Represent their class as Eco Leaders
- Share ideas and lead initiatives to improve the school environment
- Work together to promote sustainability across school life
- Develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills
Eco Council members play an active role in decision-making and help shape positive change within the school community.
Learning beyond the classroom
Key themes from the Eco-Schools programme are woven into learning and wider school life, including:
- Energy and water use
- Waste and recycling
- Biodiversity and school grounds
- Healthy living and transport
- Global citizenship
These themes support pupils in understanding their role as responsible global citizens and encourage them to think critically about the impact of their actions.
